Post Twenty Six: The Move.

From here to whenever I get the internet, these post are all back logged, and written on my computer without internet.

Moving night was craziness, the Misses and I work full time during the week and our landlord needed us out by friday (tomorrow) in order to re-rent the place out before the new month. So we spent a night of craziness, from eight at night til six in the morning, moving every single thing out of my old apartment into the new. It was downright crazy, and I do not see how I survived my next day of work, considering I only got an hours worth of sleep. But all is done, and I am now sitting in my new house. Yay!

Post Twenty Four: Phiraq

I was on one of my numerous breaks today, and sitting outside, when all the sudden, a woman in a crazy blue and yellow dress approached us. She and a soldier were having people sign the Flag of Philadelphia, to be sent to a Philly native serving in Baghdad. I of course, thought the cause nobel, and signed.

I have always been a huge fan of flags, logos, and emblems for some reason, maybe I have a knack for representation. I have never really read about the city flag, but have always admired it, and want to hang one from my new house.

According to Wikipedia: The flag of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania consists of three vertical stripes (blue, yellow, blue), with the city coat of arms across the center of the yellow stripe. The seal and arms were adopted by the city in 1874. The blue and yellow colors commemorate the original Swedish colonization of the site of Philadelphia.

I believe the last part however is incorrect (as some things on wiki-pedia tend to be occasionally), the blue bars represent the rivers that bind the original city grid, the Delaware and Schuylkill respectively. Though, some things have joint meanings flag wise, I have always heard the latter to be true.

Post Twenty Two: Invincible

Invincible was AWESOME. It was much better than I expected, and followed in the tradition of Miracle in being a great Disney-fide sports flick.

The story is about the Philadelphia Eagles of the mid-70's, and one particular fan from Philly, whom got his chance to play for the team that he, his neighbors, and friends grew up watching.

Philadelphia was very well recreated, and sent back in time 30 years. Veterans Stadium actually looked clean, and all the views of it in the picture are stunning. It makes me wish I had actually seen a game there. There is a shot of pre-big building Philly for one second in the movie, and City Hall is seen as being the dominant building in the skyline of course.

The cast was great, most notably was Mark Wahlberg. Elizabeth Banks, was as she always is, not only stunning, very well acted in her role as the love interest. Greg Kinnear as Dick Vermeil is brilliant also.

I would recommend anyone who has any interest in Football, or sports in general, going to see this one.

Post Twenty One: Logan

I took the pictures for this today on one of my ridiculously long lunch breaks. The quality is poor, but you can blame my animating program for that! The original pictures are great quality.

What are you seeing, you ask? Logan Circle and Swann Fountain of course.

Logan Circle, (Formally name North West Square, until it was renamed for James Logan), is one of William Penn's original five city squares in his original plan for Philadelphia. The square is in the north west center of the city, and over the years has had many different uses, including a pasture, a site of public hanging, burial ground, and most recently a park.

In the 30s, the Benjamin Franklin Parkway was underway and the site was turned from Square to Circle, and a memorial fountain installed (Swann Memorial Fountain i.e seen above), dedicated to Wilson Cary Swann, founder of the Phila. Fountain Society.

Quoted: "...large Native American figures to symbolize the areaÂ’s major streams, the Delaware, the Schuylkill, and the Wissahickon. The young girl leaning on her side against an agitated, water-spouting swan represents the Wissahickon Creek; the mature woman holding the neck of a swan stands for the Schuylkill River; and the male figure, reaching above his head to grasp his bow as a large pike sprays water over him, symbolizes the Delaware River. Sculpted frogs and turtles spout water toward the 50-foot geyser in the center, though typically the geyser only spouts 25ft. The use of swans is a pun on Dr. Swann's name."

taken from my office, Logan Circle and the Parkway.

Zoom!

Now I am off to go see Invincible, the story of Vince Pepale, a supposed Philadelphia sports hero. I hear it's like Rocky, but with the Iggles. It's Disney meets Philadelphia, and that sounds fun to me. Arevieww tomorrow, I am sure.

Post Twenty: Heart

I was born with Congenital Heart Disease, specifically I had multiple VSD's, and thought my self limited in many ways for well, many years.

Former doctors had told me that I would need a pacemaker and should not over-exert myself in sports or physical activity. So for most of my life, I have always been in fear of my heart exploding by doing something over-active.

Today, I had my first appointment in about 3 years with a heart specialist. Not only was he a specialist, but he specializes in my exact condition, so even better.

After all the testing and questioning, he flat up tells me that I have no reason to limit myself physically, and that he sees nothing wrong with my heart as of now. He even went as far to tell me that I do not even need to see a specialist, and that my only concern should be preventing heart infection.

It feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders, I feel almost fearless. It's kind of weird.

My mother, god bless her, came all the way up from Florida to go to the appointment, and it was nice as always to see her. I wish she had stayed longer today, but it was fun while she was here.

I paid my security, first, and last months rent, less than a week left in South Philly, craziness.

Post Nineteen: TnJ

Stupid people, editing stuff...according to an article on silly Yahoo! the British t.v gurus are editing old CLASSIC cartoons of smoking. Its appalling to think that they are changing cartoons that was made in some cases 40 to 50 years ago.

The cartoons include Tom And Jerry, The Flinstones, and Scooby Doo, and possibly the rest of the famous Hannah Barbara line-up.

quoted: "Turner recognizes that it is not suitable for cartoons aimed at children to portray smoking in a cool context and has additionally pledged to review the entire Hanna-Barbara catalog to remove scenes that appear to glamorous or encourage smoking," Cecilia Persson, a Turner VP, said in a statement."

Disney atleast released all its scandalous cartoons on DVD, with a pre-show warning, telling of the times when the cartoons were produced, they did not edit them. This is crap, these cartoons are art. And I wish they would be respected for what they are. They represent a different time, and a different social era. It's history, it's art, it's a piece of a time long gone.

House to be, How cozy it looks.

Ah yes, the place is pretty much ours, my credit checks out (Wow, I have credit!), and all they have to do is check a few more references and we are set. Woohoo, I am so excited.

Work today was so weird, I swear that we are being recorded for some television show, cause all we did was sit in a big conference room all day, and laugh and joke. We had 3 or 4 breaks, one being over an hour. Getting paid to do nothing is AMAZING, I tell you. But I want to work, and 40 hours a week, non stop.

I am seeing my mother tomorrow and going to see the Phightin's play the Marlins. Should be great times. Thursday I get my heart checked out.

Post Seventeen: SPTR

Wow, I think I have a new favorite hang out ever: The South Philly Tap Room. Amazing joint, with probably the best beer selection I have ever seen. I had many a drink last night, and as in tradition of my try new beers, I write about it:

Victory Hop Devil: Like the other Victory (Prima Pils) I have had, I loved this one. The taste is so strong and hoppy, but downright delicious.

Sea Dogs Blue Paw Wheat Ale: From Maine, We tried this one on a whim, and it was a blueberry flavored ale. Not my fav by far, but the taste was to say the least, interesting. The smell of it was overpowering almost.

then of course a Boddingtons...but I have already covered that one.

Anchor Steam: From San Fran, was an interesting lager of sorts. I don't really have much to say about it honestly.

and last but certainly not least was

Duvel: from Belgium. A strong golden ale, served in a Burgundy glass type cup, it is almost champagne like. It is complex and has a lot of depth in taste, and to top it off, it is fairly strong alcohol wise for a beer (8.5%). It was a bit pricey, but definitely worth it.

My favorite tonight: Duvel.

Post Sixteen: Movin'

I recently got a new job making more money, and my lease is running up. So me and my old lady decided to get a new place, actually it was decided long ago, but the means just recently came to put such a plan into action, and what a better time than now. We found a place in Queens Village, that is a magnificent Tri-Level, and just right for the both of us. Given we are at the realtors office on time(before someone else) and my credit checks out, we will have it. We are praying, cause this place is downright awesome and we fell in love right away when we viewed it.

I am kind of sad to be leaving my current location though, not because I like it as an apartment (cause that's definitely not the case), but because I have gained some really neat memories here. It was the first place I ever rented on my own, and I feel I sort of gained a lot of my independence here and what not.

I actually love moving though, this will be my 6th move in a little less than 3 years, and my 9th in a little less than 6 years. I moved 3 times in Florida, then to New York, then to New Jersey, Philadelphia, back to Jersey, then settled into Philly, and now once more to a different house in the city.

Everybody collectively pray that we get the place. Forriz.

Post Fifteen: EPCOT

My most exciting plans for a birthday ever, will be celebrating my just turning 21 at EPCOT, in my native Orlando. I practically grew up at Disney World, and me and my twin found it only fitting to get legally drunk for the first time at a place that holds so many of our birthday memories. Plus, I have only an urge to try more and more different beers, so its perfect.

People have coined this adventure-in-drunkenland "Drinking Around The World", and this is how it goes. For those of you not familiar with EPCOT, it has a showcase of countries and there respective cultures, all Disney-fied of course.

Drinks:

Mexico - Dos Equis beer.
Norway - Ringes beer.
China - Tsingtao or Yanjing beer.
Italy - Wine or Peroni beer.
USA - a Samuel Adams of course.
Japan - Kirin beer.
Morocco - Cassablanca beer.
France - Fischer beer.
Great Britain - Guinness/Harp/Tennent's/Caffrey's beer
Canada - Molson beer.

Happy birthday to me...December 16th!

Post Fourteen: Comcastic!

I now work near the site of the new Comcast Center, and I find it very interesting watching a building grow, especially one which will eclipse all buildings in the skyline that I truly adore.

Comcast Center, once billed as One Pennsylvania Place (a more fitting name if you ask me), is set to be the tallest building between New York City and Chicago when it is completed. It will have a Billy-Penn-hating staggering height of 975 feet, eclipsing the former head of the skyline (One Liberty Place) by 30 feet, spire included.

Personally I think the design is kind of bland, though it kind of matches the design of its neighboring building to be. However, I like the choice of location a lot, as it doesn't really block out any significant structures in views of the skyline, if anything, it will fit perfectly from all angles.

Another exciting aspect of the build is an expansion of the city's Suburban Street Station. The underground station is expansive as is, but lacks character or appeal in all senses of it's design. I am much excited to see the improvements.

The building is set to finish in the fall of 2007, so I will be passing by it everyday, and look foward to seeing the birth of this giant.

The Premiership starts tomorrow, PARTY ON!

Post Thirteen: Boddies.

I went to a friends pub last night, and tried a few more beers. Here is a review for them.

Hoegaarden: I am surprised I have never tried this before, because it seems to be the popular choice among a few friends. It has a very citrusy smell to it, and the taste is smooth and malty. This white ale is definitely tasty, light, and enjoyable.

Boddingtons: Made exclusively in Manchester England for over 200 years, this beer is excellent. It is a rich, creamy, and sweet ale, that has a small hinting taste of honey that you get a sense of as it goes down. You have to drink it slow to really enjoy it though. Again, excellent!

Red Stripe: was actually one of the first beers I tried, over a year ago, and I have always been fond of this premium lager and its little brown bottle. Plus, get a load of these commercials.

...and last, and certainly my most interesting try of the night:

Victory Prima Pils: Victory Brewing Co, was formed in Downingtown PA, by two buddies who loved to make beer. This selection from their small variety is very interesting. You can definitely taste the hops in it, it taste as if they are almost over-burnt. I found it to be very interesting and very much enjoyed the bitterness of it.

My choice of the night: Boddingtons. Hey thanks Lindsey, good choice.

Post Twelve: Ace Three?

I was going to write about Philadelphia today BUT: According to someone at AintItCool:

Morgan Creek has begun the detective work on a kooky cold case. The production company has hired Jeff Sank and brothers Jason and Justin Heimberg to write a third installment of the hit franchise "Ace Ventura." The two previous "Ventura" comedies grossed more than $180 million domestically and helped establish Jim Carrey as one of the highest-paid comedy actors in Hollywood. The latest pet project is expected to center on the eccentric detective's son, who steps into his father's shoes to take over the family business.

Oh HELL naw. This is the worst idea ever, though I am sure I will see it. I was always a huge fan of the Ace Ventura series, and maybe that's why the thought of a third and crap-filled sequel kills me inside. It sounds like it will turn out to be the "Batmand and Robin" of the Ace series, oh god NO!

Speaking of the Ace Ventura movies: Warner Home Video will release Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls in a Deluxe Double Feature 3-disc set on September 5th. Pet Detective will feature a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 English & French) audio tracks, as well as an audio commentary (with director Tim Shadyac), a making-of featurette, and trailers. When Nature Calls will feature the same disc specs as Pet Detective, along trailers and three episodes from television's Ace Ventura The Animated Series. The third "bonus" disc will contain more episodes from the Ace Ventura The Animated Series.

Its about time, and I am absolutely thrilled with this. I have never seen Pet Dick in widescreen, and have never gotten to appreciate it in that sense. I hope they have the extended version of the movie. And wow, some of the toon's are included on a third disc, even better!

I'm looking for Ray Finkle. [a shotgun cocks and is pointed at his head] ...and a clean pair of shorts.

Post Eleven: Tomorrowland

I am sure you all just love hearing more about Disney...but!

DVD review: Walt Disney Treasures presents Tomorrowland.

This DVD, like all of those in the Disney Treasures series, is fantastic, and full of information. They all seem to bring the veiwer back to a time that is very much gone, a time of imagination and innocence.

Tomorrowland focuses on a series of short films and pieces of animation from the Disneyland television show of the early 50's, involving the future (and now past) of the space race. It reaches back in time to tell the history of man's fascination with the stars and moon, with a very great sense of story telling, and amazingly well done animation.

Historical figures from the pre-moon space days are brought in to explain what it will be like in the then future of travel in space. Most notably is Werner Von Braun, who was a pioneer at NASA (and the Nazi's!) in the earlier days of space exploration.

All the information is remarkably accurate, given the fact that is was 10 or so years prior to the first manned exploration of space. Detailed in the stories, are theories on how man may make it to the moon, using quadruple staged rockets and the like. Notable also is "Mars And Beyond" which tackles ideas not yet even conquered.

Also worth mentioning is the a presentation on disc two entitled: E.P.C.O.T, in which Walt Disney himself speaks of his plans to bring an Environmental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow to Florida. Sadly, his dream was never realized, and the Epcot we know today is a mere joke in comparison to Uncle Walt's real dreams and aspirations.

Running Time: 319 Minutes (5 hours, 19 minutes) (253 - programs, 11 - introductions, 55 - extras) 1.33:1 Fullscreen (Original Ratio) / Dolby Digital Mono (English)
Rating: Not Rated / Originally Broadcast between 1955 and 1959 Subtitles: English; Closed Captioned / DVD

Post Nine: This Just In!

disney afternoons

From Ultimate Disney:

It's now official! We've just gotten word that "DuckTales" Volume 2, "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers" Volume 2, and "Disney's Adventures of The Gummi Bears" Volume 1 will all arrive on DVD on November 14th. "DuckTales" will include the 5-part pilot episode "Treasure of the Golden Suns" plus 19 additional episodes. "Chip 'n Dale" will hold Episodes 28-51 and include its 5-part pilot "Rescue Rangers to the Rescue." "Gummi Bears", Disney's first animated TV series, will contain all 47 episodes from Seasons 1 through 3, half of the show's 6-season run. Each 3-disc set will carry a modest $34.99 suggested retail price. "Gummi Bears" fans needn't worry about compression woes; most of these 47 episodes run about 11½ minutes apiece (they were doubled up to fill a half-hour timeslot), making its content comparable to the other two sets. Update: High-res cover and slim case artwork has now been posted for "DuckTales" V2, "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers" V2, and "The Gummi Bears" V1.

Post Eight: Soccer (Football)

Soccer in the past few months has become my favorite sport, ever. Thanks mostly to the World Cup, and the excitement brought on by all the madness. I have even made many a new friend thanks to my new love of the sport. Hell, in some ways I can attribute my new found love for beer to the World Cup and soccer. And hell, even Jim Noir (whom has an amazing song about soccer). I have begun to play the sport too, which is also, amazingly fun.

At my orientation the other day, I met my new boss...whom is a soccer player and coach. So weird. But I love the way a sport can connect you with other people in ways you would never think possible.

But anyways, I have come to greatly appreciate the sport, and the way and manner it is played. It is very untraditional in the American sense, and maybe that's what I find interesting. I love the way the fans are too, very passionate. When a sport stops a civil war, you knows its significant and unique in the realm of influence and connection to the world.

The world cup will be held in South Africa in 2010, I better start saving.

Post Six: WTC (review)

So I just returned from the movie, therefore I want to get all my thoughts about it out before they fade.

I can honestly say I enjoyed it, to an extent. The story flowed, slowly at points (especially the second act), but was full of optimism and hope, not something you would expect out of a September 11th movie. The whole disastrous event felt very downplayed at times. You only got glimpses and snipets of what it felt like to be in the lives of people living through that horrific day.

There were a few characters that were very unlikeable, most notably Staff sergeant Karnes. He is a god-fearing-former-Marine hailing from Connecticut, and he is on a mission to go to the WTC site, commando style and save the day. He was downright the most over-dramatic character in a movie, EVER. At the end, you are told that he went on to serve two tours of duty in Iraq. The guy was so brain-less, that he obviously misses the part where the two events were never connected, 9/11 and Iraq that is.

On an upside though, the relationship displayed between John McLoughlin (Cage) and Will Jimeno (Pena) was uplifting, heartfelt and very intense. And their wives, played by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Maria Bello are also very well portrayed.

Oliver Stone definitely bent over and took it for the conservatives on this one, it was one big flag waving extravaganza. I think the real point is missed...but still...enjoyable. If you have ten bucks to spare, its worth it. Let me know what you think.

Post Five: WTC (film)

I was at the bar last night, and my phone beeps. So, I look down at it, anticipating a text message, but all I received was a reminder to myself of the movie "World Trade Center"'s release. I initially had much interest in the film, due to the fact that I remember the event it covers very well, as it is still ingrained in my mind.

I somewhat support the release of the film, because it brings up the whole topic again in the minds of many Americans whom seem to have forgotten the big picture. On the other hand, I think it is a tad bit early. I however, am sure I will go to see it eventually, because my curiosity will get the best of me. And when I do, I will be sure to write down all my thoughts on the movie.

O.K O.K I just got my tickets...a review tomorrow.

Post Four: Zemeckis joins Disney?

I have gotten the news, which I hope is true, that Robert Zemeckis and his production company ImageMovers might be signing up with Disney.

For those of you not familiar with the name, Zemeckis is the director of some great stuff: Back To The Future (part1, 2, and 3), Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Polar Express, and most recently Monster House.

He has always been well known for his great use of special effects, and most recently for his pioneering in the art of motion capture. The latter is what I am sure Disney is targeting in this acquisition.

What a great partnership that would be (more so, for Disney). Read more here.

(mouse) UPDATE:

The trap I set yesterday, worked...But not well enough. I was standing, putting a DVD in, when the sudden I hear POP, and SQUEAL! Post Three: Mickey Mouse Traps

So, I have had this mouse in my apartment for over two months now...and he is impossible to get rid of. I can honestly say that for the first month, I was lax about setting out traps, I wanted to be humane and get rid of it some other way (also impossible).

After numerous nights watching him run back and forth, from the radiator, behind the fridge to under the kitchen counter, the sympathy ran thin. Last night was the last straw, he ran into the bathroom whilst I was doing my business and hid right behind me and the toilet. Not cool, I managed to scare him out of there and he ran to god knows where.

I can honestly say that I was a bit on the buzzed side, and feeling slightly MacGyver-ish. So I block all his favorite pathways except for one, and set the traps there. Hell, I even put a sign up (for the lady - "watch your toes!").

I went to sleep with thought of ridding myself of this pest, and woke up disappointed.

Why won't you just die?!

ps: if you think I am inhumane...The lady wanted to use glue
traps, I refused, citing the fact the the mouse usually just bites his limbs off
to make an escape...THAT'S inhumane. I am being more than kind
by offering instant death.

Post Two: Beer

I have, over the past few months, finally acquired a taste for beer, and in doing so have fallen head over heels in love with it. I simply can not get enough of it, in fact I feel like I have been missing out.

I don't really know how it all started...I guess I can blame this all on the World Cup and bars which do not card their underage patrons (Hey, Thanks Ludwigs Garten!).

In the process of trying a narrow yet varying selection of beers (Hey, Thanks James!), I have thus far come to enjoy and prefer lagers, specifically the German selection. Though I have enjoyed a few differing types, and am open to anything new.

This is where you come in:
I need suggestions on what to try next, so that is up to YOU. So comment away, and help me become more knowledgeable in this new craze of mine.

Thank you.

This is my first post, I thought it was time to start a blog of sorts again. I had a livejournal, and occasionally blogged on MySpace, but that's impersonal and un-fun. I will probably be posting about mundane things on my mind, from national news, sports, movies, pop culture, to the new DVD's I am creaming my pants over (which there are plenty of). I should be making these post daily, but thats not a promise.

I will probably post pictures every now and then, I used to take them avidly, but kind of lost touch with all of that. It is something I would like to pick up again.

This will also be a semi-log of preperations before my trip to Germany next year. I have been trying to take the trip for a while now, and now think I will finally be in a financial state to where I can start saving for the trip. I will hopefully be visiting next spring, or early summer.

That's all for now.
