Post Forty Eight- Curious George

Since childhood, I have always been in love with the Curious George books and stories, and when I heard that a movie was being released I was thrilled, of course. I saw it three weeks before it came out, since I was working at a movie theatre at the time.

I loved it, the story is fun, and tends to stick towards the original feel of the books. The sound cast, lead by Will Farrell (voice of Ted, the man in the yellow hat), Drew Barrymore (his love interest), and David Cross is very well done. The animation is bright, and colorful, and suprisingly very well conceived, though 20 percent of it is CGI assisted and can be a bit disorienting at times. The soundtrack is also brilliant, with songs by Jack Johnson, whom I hadn't really been a fan of til this movie. I actually enjoyed the music so much, I picked up the soundtrack, which is something I have not done in years.

I as always, picked up the dvd on day one. The disc is more so geared towards kids, but is full of good features. Including many deleted scenes (15 actually), a music video (Upside Down by Jack Johnson), a draw George segment, and clips of the animation in progress. The transfer and presentation are great quality, so over-all, for a one disc-er, i would rate this one an B+.

Post Forty Six - T.O

DALLAS -
Dallas Cowboys' receiver Terrell Owens denied a police report Wednesday that he attempted suicide, saying he became groggy after mixing painkillers with supplements.

As if to prove he's doing fine, Owens went from the hospital to catching passes from quarterback Drew Bledsoe within two hours, then proclaimed himself "very capable of going out there and playing on Sunday" — despite whatever happened Tuesday night and a broken right hand.

Owens said the confusion likely stemmed from an empty bottle of pain medication found by his publicist, who was with him at the time and called 911. He said the rest of the pills were in a drawer.

Oh T.O, get over yourself. We don't know the real story, but I bet its all a big lie for him to get attention, cause god knows that is all he cares about and wants. Every Philadelphia Eagles fan was probably wishing he had succeeded today, I personally wish death on no one, but they are, as we all know, ruthless.

Post Forty Five - WS/FS

I did it again, I bought a movie (Curious George, hey, don't laugh ass hole.) that was full screen. The difference in the boxes for Wide and Full screen is a little word on the side, and frankly I thought it would only be sold in wide screen, so didn't bother to check. Thank god I didn't open the packaging all the way and could return the thing.

When are the major studios going to learn to stop selling full screen movies to unknowing customers who are receiving a sub-par product. They are selling not only something that is sub-par, but half the movie is cut off!(as shown to the left).

They expect to hype HD and Blu-Ray to people whom can't really tell the difference between a great and sub-par product in regards to screen size and quality.

Good luck there guys!

Post Forty Four - Come on.

Girl, 5, killed by stray bullet
Alish Corley sped away yesterday morning after someone started shooting along North Spangler Street in the city's Strawberry Mansion section. But she couldn't outrun the bullets, one of which tore into her car and through the heart of her 5-year-old daughter, Cashae.

Corley rushed Cashae to the firehouse at 26th and York Streets, where medics took her to Temple University Hospital. She was pronounced dead just before 11:15 a.m. "She was so full of life, and we lost her to the senseless violence that is everywhere in this city," said Tamika Carter, her aunt. "You get so tired hearing about kids being killed. Then it happens to you and feel what a tragedy it is."

No arrests had been made late yesterday, but at least two people were taken to the homicide unit for questioning. Late yesterday, police were guarding a house in the 2500 block of Spangler while a search warrant was sought. (rest of article here)

Why on earth do I keep hearing these stories? This is probably the 3rd or 4th time this year I have heard of little boys or girls being shot dead in our city streets. What is wrong with these people? It is so senseless, the violence, and all over things that are probably ridiculous to begin with-- money, reputation, or drugs.

It's no wonder that I stick to my side of town, but why should it have to be that way? What is wrong with the fabric of our society?

What a tragedy, and all over nothing.

Post Forty Three - I Live 4 This

This blog as of late seems thuroughly devoted to the Phillies, but hell, its just that time of year. The game was AMAZING, and the Phillies came out swinging, and managed to win.

Ryan Howard hit his 58 on the year, and god knows how I captured it on video. Wow, it was a site seeing history in the making. You can obviously see the excitement of the crowd. The house was packed, sold out at that, and the Phillies didnt let anyone down.

Me and the misses, smiling, after a 5 - 2 Phils win, over the Florida Marlins.

Post Forty Two - Home Run King

Oh the Phillies, my team for the last three years. Its been rough, as it always has and probably always will be, to be a fan. They have looked good for most of the season, and have arguably two of the best players in baseball, Ryan Howard, and mister Chase Utley.

Ryan Howard, the home run king:

With the legal controversy surrounding the alleged use of performance-enhancing supplements by Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire and Barry Bonds who combined for six of the eight 60+ home run seasons over a four-year span the North Dakota state Senate passed a resolution in April 2005 urging commissioner Bud Selig to reinstate Roger Maris's 162-game 1961 total as the single-season record. Major League Baseball has taken no action regarding the non-binding resolution.

Howard is currently on pace to hit 61 home runs this season, which would tie Roger Maris's career high. The Maris family has publicly acknowledged that, should Howard finish the season with 62 or more home runs, they will cede the crown to Howard, despite having no authority to do so whatsoever. Major League Baseball still recognizes the record for most home runs in a single season to be held by Barry Bonds, with 73 in 2001, and will not celebrate Howard's 62nd home run should he hit it .

You know what? Screw Sosa, Screw McGuire, and by FAR screw Barrwhinnyey pants Bonds. They are all known users of the roids, and if Ryan Howard makes it to 62, he better get the credit for it.

He deserves it, Philadelphia deserves it.

The Phils are currently tied for the wild-card spot, with ten games left to go. Six of the ten will be played against the Marlins, three against the lowly Nationals, and a make up gamagainstnt those feisty Astros. Let's hope the Dodgers get in a late season slump, and we pull this thing off.

Though even if we don't make the play-offs, this has been a season to remember, and I only regret that I have not seen more games. I will however be going ttonight'sts game, in the chilly cold, and pictures will be up possibly Monday!

Root, Root, Root for them Phillies...

Post Forty One - Confusing?

I know it may seem confusing to be seeing all these post with pictures, but no words. Well, I had to update SOMETHING, so I decided since I didn't have a disc to put the file with all the writing on it, I would just updated the post, their dates, pictures, and so forth.

The words come later, either tomorrow, or monday, but hell, atleast you get a glimpse at what they will be about.

Post Forty - BTTF The Ride

The future of the Back to the Future ride is short at Universal Studios. After months of not commenting on rumors of the attraction's demise, Universal Orlando on Wednesday confirmed that the 16-year-old simulator ride will be closing to make room for an as-yet-undisclosed new attraction.

Universal spokesman Tom Schroder would not give a date for the ride's last run, though employees at Universal said they have been told it would close Oct. 1. The ride uses simulator motion technology and a large-screen movie projection system to give visitors the illusion they are traveling in the DeLorean car/time machine featured in the movie franchise.

The three movies, released in 1985, '89 and '90, star Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd.Back to the Future funnels visitors into two identical domes that each have 12 vehicles, which each seat eight riders. Schroder said one dome was closed recently so that attraction designers could explore possibilities for future rides.

"We've not formalized any plans but the creative process requires us to take some steps now," Schroder said. Rumors among Universal staff members, fueled and circulated by the Internet, involve several possible replacements, including rides based on the Fast and the Furious movie franchise and one based on The Simpsons TV show. Back to the Future was one of the original rides when Universal Studios opened in 1990 and for many years was considered among the most advanced simulator rides in the world. The anticipated closure has fueled an Internet petition drive to get Universal to change its mind. "We know Back to the Future has an enormous following among our fans, and we know it has a significant history," Schroder said. "Any decision we make regarding Back to the Future is not taken lightly."

Say it isn't so. Fast and the Furious Ride? Are You Fucking Kidding ME?

Post Thirty Nine - Miss Mars

Okay, before this past weekend, I would never admit to liking a show that plays on the WB/UPN/CW network, but now I must admit that I, Gavin Dehler, love one.

One by the name of Veronica Mars. I should blame it on my pal Derek, who stayed at my place for a week and played part of the series while over. I enjoyed the episode I saw, and finally had money to pick up dvd's the other day, so I purchased it on sale (at Target, which may I add, has awesome prices on dvd's occasionally), and it was well worth my $18.99.

The first season revolves around, obviously, miss Veronica Mars, and her life after the murder of her best friend, Lilly Kane, and break-up from her boyfriend. The show is packed full of catchy high school drama, but it always has the greatest twist, and leaves you wanting more. The mystery and suspense are exhilarating at times, and it easy to become addicted to it. And did I mention that Kristen Bell is by far, not 17 looking and hotter than all hell.

Season two, here I come.

ps: I'll never admit to liking a CW show again in my life.

Post Thirty Eight - Fussball pt. 3

Ah sunday, my day of sports religion. This one however, was a let down. The Eagles looked so good until the 4th, and got smashed by the Giants. I felt the hurt of all Philadelphian's when I arrived home to find out the game that I had left to go play soccer was an absolute disaster. Maybe I am bad luck, and should have stayed and watch...or maybe the Eagles just suck.

Soccer was fun today, my buddy James joined, and it was a full house. We actually played positions today, and I was thrown in the back-field / goal position, which for the most part I succeeded at defeding, until the final shot of the game, when I misjudged and jumped over the ball and let it go in, ultimately letting the other team beat us. Damn, that sucked.

Post Thirty (Zero) Seven

I went to the Theatre of Living Arts (TLA) to see Zero Seven, one of my fav bands, play last night. The show was awesome, awesome, and more awesome, minus the crowd. Which was a bunch of late-twenties-drunk-shit head-ass holes. Why waste the 16 bucks to see a band you don't even care to pay attention to and ruin it for other people? I was about ready to kick someone's ass.

Well anyways, here is some video.

Post Twenty Five - Miss Me?

I have not had internet for more than two weeks now, thus why this blog has not been updated. However, I have been writing all my entries into my computer for future updating. I have writen at least ten or so, and they will all be backlogged.

I miss writing in this thing a lot.

Just letting everyone know that things are well.

Post Thirty Six - FLoP

During my lunch break at work, I have making the short trek to the Philadelphia Public Library to check my email, and rent books. I have officially fallen in love with it.

According to everyone's favorite wiki-site: In 1890, George S. Pepper, the uncle of the provost of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. William Pepper, died. At the suggestion of Dr. Pepper, he had earmarked $225,000 of his estate to go towards the foundation of the Free Library of Philadelphia, which was established on February 18, 1891. Lawsuits from private libraries held up the disbursement of the funds until 1894; meanwhile, the city of Philadelphia opened six branches of a separate institution, the Philadelphia Public Library, beginning in 1892. In March 1894 the first branch of the Free Library was opened at City Hall, and later that year the two institutions merged under the Free Library name. By 1898 the Free Library had the largest circulation in the world, at 1,778,387 volumes.

The Library's headquarters moved to 12th and Chestnut Streets in 1895. In 1906, it was decided that the Library's permanent headquarters should be along the proposed Benjamin Franklin Parkway (then known as the Fairmount Parkway), and Logan Square was chosen as the site in 1910, the same year the Library moved to 13th and Locust Streets. Ground was broken in 1917 and construction began in 1920. The new building was completed in late 1926, and the Free Library of Philadelphia opened for business at its current location on June 2, 1927.

Post Thirty Five - The Holy Trilogy

George Lucas finally got over himself and released the original Star Wars trilogy in it's original form. Fan-boys and dorks world wide will without a doubt be picking up, but I honestly don't really care at all, Plus! The dvd's are released with no special features, and are in a bad format, and quality.

I honestly love the special and updated editions, for the pure fact that is just MORE Star Wars. Plus! The dvd's are released with no special features, and are in a bad format, and quality. Though, I can honestly say, Haddon Christianson in Return of the Jedi's end really creeps me out, and always has.

Post Thirty Four - Five Years Later

September 11th, 2001 - Five years ago, I am sure everyone remembers the story and where we all were, though outside of that, it seems a lot has been forgotten, like the big picture. Everything has been Hollywood-ized and played out to extremes by the fear-mongerers, constant news reports, and rainbow power terror warnings. People became complacent in their days and their worries, and personal lives. I without a doubt, am obviously not all that different.

All of this while wars are waged with your hard-earned tax dollars over no real motive except that of the military-industrial complex. All of this while thousands die in Iraq, Afghanistan, (and god knows where else), including innocent civilians and our brave fighting men and woman in uniform. All of this while we lose our civil liberties to the Patriot Act, which classifies every breathing being a terrorist, and impend on your right to liberty and privacy as an American, under the guise of terrorism. Happy nineteen-eighty-four everyone.

People say that politics should be pushed aside and the day be used as a remembrance for those who died, and I would whole-heartedly agree if not for that fact that 95 percent of Americans do not think about these things other-wise. People should use this day not only to remember, but to ask questions, to voice doubts, views, and their hopes for the future. For that is what I hope America still is, a place of hope, freedom, and understanding, during this time of fear and blindness.

that's all, for now.

Post Thirty Three - Futbol pt. 2

I didn't really have all that much hope for the Eagles this year, but they sure proved me wrong so far in game 1 of the season. Donte Stallworth looked a lot better than anyone predicted. And to top it off, Dallas lost to none other than my second team, J-ville.

Philadelphia Eagles 24 / Houston Texans 10
Jacksonville Jaguars 24 / Dallas Cowboys 17

After watching the game, I played my second weekend of soccer, and did decent this time. A friend of mine accompanied me, so I think that calmed my nerves a little, plus the people who met up this week were really nice. I managed to get the ball, pass quite often, and almost scored a few times. The game ended up getting rained out in the last few minutes, but my team won.

Post Thirty One - Joan F R C

The show was amazing. As all Joan Of Arc shows are. I talked to Bobby Burg (of Joan Of Arc, and Make Believe) about my pictures being used on the Make Believe site, and he complimented my work, which I honestly never know how to take, especially from a guy who is in my favorite band ever. He even asked me if I wanted to be credited on stage, I declined, but hell, what an honor.

Post Thirty - R.I.P Stevey

Wow, the Crocodile Hunter is dead. I found out when was in the elevator at work. It absolutely ruined my day, I loved his show and very much respected him for the work he did with animals. He followed his dreams and seemed very content and happy with his life, he always did what he wanted. So I am sure there is comfort with his family over that fact.

Post Twenty Nine - Ace.

Holy Testicle Tuesday - The Ace three pack has finally been released and I of course, picked it up the second it did. I actually rode my bike through the pouring rain just to get my hands on it.

Pet Detective: The digital transfer is outstanding and it is like watching a completely different movie. My only problem with the movie, is that it is the theatrical release and one of my favorite scenes is left out. The scene of course, is where Ace is in the in the dolphin tank and pretends to be the trainer, using a very deep german accent. Over-all, this dvd alone is worth the 13 bucks I spent on the 3 disc set.

When Nature Calls: Again, amazing transfer, and great commentary, outside of that, the disc is pretty much feature-less.

The Animated Series: I don't really remember watching this as a kid, but seeing them again did not bring back any fond memories. The show is pretty annoying, and very poorly computer animated. The guy who does Ace's voice is awful, and the show is pretty much just a showcase for repeating all of the famous catchlines and phrases from the movies.

If you love comedy or any of the Ace movies, spend the 13 bucks. It is well worth it.

Post Twenty Eight - Game On(e)

I met a guy at the bar a week back or so and he was Scottish, so I asked if he was a soccer fan, and of course, being from the Isle, his answer was yes. He went on to tell me that he and a bunch of guys get together for a game of soccer every sunday, and that I should join in. So of course, I did. I love playing soccer and god knows I would never pass up a fully organized game.
I got there, and all the guys were cool, and we ended up playing a group of Korean guys, and some UPenn kids.

To make a long story short, we got our ass kicked, and I was probably the worst player on the field. I made an ass of myself a few times, rolling over the ball, missing passes and slipping on the muddy field. I did however manage to almost score a header into the goal, which by far would have made my day.

But it was downright one of the funniest times I have ever had with random people, and I lasted for the whole length of the game, 100 minutes. So yeah, I am sure I will be a regular, and no one will want me on their team. Can't say I blame them!

Post Twenty Seven - TaleSpin/Darkwing

So even though I am flat broke, and owe hundreds to my misses, I just HAD to have the Darkwing and Talespin boxsets. It is crazy weird to watch shows I watched as a 5 or 6 year old, now as a 20 year old. I can honestly say that they don't excite me as much, but are still enjoyable in the sense that they make me very much think back to my childhood and the joy these shows brought me.

As far as DVD's go, they were well priced and for 25 or so bucks, come full of 10 hours worth of toons. The only downside is that there are absolutely no special features and the quality of the transfer is not all that good. But over-all, if you have any interest in these shows, or watched them as a kid, I would buy them.
